We chatted about this book, her inspiration, writing process, and more. KPL invited me to be a part of their event, An Evening With Lisa See, and interview her on stage in front of attendees. This novel deals with a lot of themes-friendship, loss, forgiveness, and resilience, to name a few-and was easily one of the best books I’ve read so far this year.īefore I get too far into this review, I’d like to mention that I received an advance copy of this book from the Kitchener Public Library. The story takes place over the course of roughly 50 years (if my math is right), and follows two main characters: Young-sook and Mi-ja. Immediately after finishing this book, I broke down crying. The Island of Sea Women was the first book by Lisa Sea that I’ve read, and it destroyed my heart in all the right ways. “Every woman who enters the sea carries a coffin on her back.” Preyfinders Series (alien invasion scifi) MESMER – a dark romance cowritten with Jennifer Bene and based on my Dark Hearts seriesĭARK MONSTER FANTASY BOXSET – pansy-dark scifi romances USED – an erotic horror spinoff from Dark Hearts (not a romance) WOLFE – a spin-off novel from the Dark Hearts trilogy Contemporary BDSM and dubcon/ noncon seriesĭARK HEARTS BOXSET – contains Wicked Ways, Wicked Weapon, Wicked Hunt THE COMPLETE PIERCED HEARTS BOXSET – all six books in one volumeĭark Hearts Trilogy – dark romances. Something I was wondering and wanted to see if anyone felt the same was this. Would have liked to see a page or two from Selena's perspective but since the narrator is really just Bark relaying his brother/best friend's death I get why. While we do get some revelations of who Selena could be, it was mostly treated as speculation that wasn't confirmed or denied until the very end. The story did feel like it stalled in the middle. You can find it and Wiliam Sloane's other novel in the collection "The Rim of Morning" by NYRB publishing. Other than a couple of references to outdated furniture or something I followed along quite well. His writing style is wonderfully refreshing in comparison to Lovecraft. Just read William Sloane's "To Walk the Night" and thought it was just ok. Georgia Ball is an author and comic writer who has been lucky enough to work on most of her favorite childhood characters. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.Īnything, including making a deal with an enemy angel. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. With that said, this was definitely one of my favorite angel/dystopian books! I really did not expect the stuff that happened in the story and I’m counting the days till I get my hands on its sequel. I just finished this book yesterday and I’m still a jumbled mess of conflicting feelings because of the action-packed ending that made me stop breathing for a while. I really have to warn you beforehand, my review below contains quite a lot of grammatical errors and raw feelings. Published by Albert Whitman and Company on April 1, 2016 Everything I thought I knew was now questioned, and I didn’t know who could be trusted or where to turn. Just when I thought I had everything under control, our enemies attacked the hunter guild from every angle, and my whole world was kicked out from beneath me. There’s too much at stake to allow myself to be influenced or for him to stand in my way. There’s one thing Kieran didn’t count on, though. He’s an egotistical maniac with a secret agenda and a psychotic need to possess and control me. The transition should have gone smoothly, and it would have if Kieran Knight hadn’t shown up. The moment I took control, everything began to unravel around me. When the unthinkable happened, my father was taken, and I was forced to step up. I’d trained my entire life to take over the hunter guild. I do have an idea for season two, but it may be in a different way like “American Horror Story” or “True Detective” do it with a whole new story. I won’t make you wait another year after you’ve invested in 10 episodes. By the end, you’ll find out where Jesse has been, who’s lying, who’s telling the truth. I’m not going to not give an answer just to have a season two. When Nicola Shindler approached me about a book that was already under option, I said, “I have this other idea that’s sticking in my head.” It was an idea niggling in my brain to maybe make into a novel, but I’d never written a novel with four leads, which this has … I always see stories visually and this one was more visual than most. What was your inspiration for the series? I was there for all the table reads and met with the director many times. Every day they’d send me rushes by email and I would study them like a rabbinical student studies the Talmud. I watched every audition tape, gave notes on scripts. I’m the executive producer and creator and I’m involved in every aspect of it, which is new for me. I don’t write the actual scripts, but the story is all mine. What was your involvement in “The Five” like? |
